Proceedings of the Technology & Emerging Media Track

We are pleased to introduce the inaugural edition of the Technology and Emerging Media 2012 Proceedings. This edited collection of short papers offers an overview of research and scholarship presented in the context of the annual conference of the Canadian Communication Association held in Waterloo, Ontario at Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo, from May 30th to June 1st, 2012. The selected papers went through a blind peer-review process.

This first edition includes 14 papers representing a vast range of research topics in the area of technology and emerging media, from gendered uses of blogs and smartphones to the structuring power of code and algorithms on human communication.

We hope to continue publishing these proceedings and to see the TEM track grow into an annual gathering for all researchers, professors, students and practitioners interested in the study of technology and emerging media.

We wish to thank all the participants who contributed to the TEM track in Waterloo, the scientific committee that helped review the papers through all stages of the process, and especially the authors who submitted papers to these proceedings. Finally, special thanks to Olivier Gadeau who did a terrific job designing/creating the website and crafting the PDF files.
